Artist
Jayne Somogy
Medium
Drawing - Pastels, Charcoal On 98-lb. Tinted Paper
Description
This is a portrait of Harriet Tubman (c.1822-1913) who was an African-American abolitionist & humanitarian. She conducted 70 slaves in 13 trips from the South to freedom in the North before slavery was abolished in 1865 via the "underground railroad." One of my artistic goals is to present and preserve history by portraying anonymous or famous figures from current or past times that typify their particular culture and time in history.
