Description
If you were over the age of 12 in the late 1960’s, you know who Mary Quant and Twiggy were. If younger, you SHOULD know about them. London’s Mary Quant was THE clothing designer of the late 60’s--the “Mod” style (think early Beatles)--& is acknowledged to be the designer of the mini skirt (or to at least have given it its name) and hotpants. If you couldn’t afford her clothes back then, you at least used her line of cosmetics. Twiggy (in this portrait) was, along with Penelope Tree, the quintessential model of that era (“Twiggy” and “Tree”—hmm . . . probably because they were both about the size of a small tree limb). The 5-petal daisy in this painting was the design symbol of Quant’s company. I designed and made a dress very similar to this one back in the late 60’s—it was made of a shiny vinyl faux leather fabric, with zebra fur collar and cuffs; if only I still had it!
