I love this. Such a great depiction of the lady. Atlas Shrugged was one of my favorite books although her philosophy can be cringeworthy. Your depiction, however, is terrific. Brava!

Jayne Somogy replied:

Thank you so much, Ellin. This one was great fun; not exactly sure how it developed--it just sort of happened as I drew and I knew what it should look like!

Artist's Description

Ayn Rand (1905-1982) is one of the most famous philosopher/writers ever, even though she wrote only three novels (but also other non-fiction work). Published in 1957, “Atlas Shrugged,” considered her magnum opus, is more popular today than when it was published. I read it in 1964 when I was 17, along with her other popular work, “The Fountainhead.” Both books had a profound effect on me, although I currently have mixed feelings about her philosophy she calls “objectivism” (explained in her own words on my portrait of her). It took her 16 years to write “Atlas Shrugged”—and, at over 1,100 pages, almost that long to read!

Art, like life, should SPARKLE! I sign my work 'SOMOGYI' the ethnically-correct version of my Hungarian surname, and I often incorporate my signature into the design of the art itself. I earned a degree in theater from the U. of Wisconsin, an additional degree, summa cum laude, in fashion design from FIDM/Los Angeles, and turned to creating art seriously in 2014 upon retiring from jobs in office administration and free time spent dancing, singing and acting. I have a passion for the exotic--music, dance, food, people--and for exploring other cultures and eras, which is...
