Title
Belly Dancer with a Pearl Earring -- whimsical redo of Vermeer painting
Artist
Jayne Somogy
Medium
Painting - Acrylics, Beads On Stretched Canvas
Description
My version of Vermeer's classic painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring"--done as a belly dancer, by a belly dancer! Loaded with Swarovski crystals, beads and pearls and, of course, a real pearl earring (all securely sewn onto the canvas). Many tribal-style belly dancers wear dreads as part of their costume, sometimes made of yarn.
This painting recently won 1st place in the "Traditional with Modern Take" contest here on FAA.

This whimsical and wonderful. It "blue" me away with choice of colors.

Love this!
Jayne Somogy replied:
Thank you so much, Abbie. It was great fun to do, combining my drawing and painting with my beading skills (I used to make elaborately-beaded belly dance costumes)!
